Lake Champlain Waldorf School (LCWS) is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of School Counselor to start as soon as March 2023 or for the 2023-24 school year. This position oversees integrated school efforts to address students’ developmental, academic, and social and emotional needs, identifies areas of deficits through administering appropriate assessments, and coordinates support between school personnel and community professionals.
This is a highly collaborative role involving active communication among teachers, parents, district educational support administrators, and other professionals to ensure that student needs are addressed according to thoughtfully planned instruction and appropriate interventions to maximize student learning through engagement.
The ideal candidate is committed to the development and health of the whole child, recognizing the importance of mental health and wellness as one component of the developing human being. They will be open, welcoming, and engaging to others and lead by active involvement in the school, focusing on the students while also working to create a healthy culture in the school.
Education and Skills:
• Master’s Degree in a mental health field or educational support, or equivalent
• Experience in schools and working with students
• Ability to respond promptly and calmly to crisis
• Success in working in a collaborative work environment, as well as the ability to self-manage in a dynamic environment
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and administrators
• Knowledge of relevant regulations and State practices
• Knowledge of drugs and alcohol in adolescence
• Knowledge of Waldorf school philosophy preferred
General Responsibilities:
• Provide individual counseling and guidance to help students cope effectively with personal, social, academic, and family concerns
• Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students
• Update and maintain confidential student records, including cumulative transcripts and student files
• Identify students with special needs and make appropriate recommendations and referrals
• Assist with coordinating and implementing support services
• Assist Enrollment Director with questions on educational and emotional support for prospective students
• Assist in making recommendations for school curriculum and instructional practices with regards to social and emotional health as well as DEI curriculum, where appropriate
• Attend and assist with school events such as field trips, music or athletic events, graduation, curriculum nights, festivals, and admissions events
• Keep current with and aware of the newest research findings, innovative ideas, and techniques related to student emotional and academic support
Position Details:
Pay commensurate with experience. Part-time or full-time position. Remission available for 75% FTE or full time employment.
